About

Kakous is an editorial review team based in Athens, Greece. We were founded in 2019 by Elena Papadakis, a journalist who spent a decade covering outdoor gear. Our small newsroom sits in a converted workshop in Koukaki, where we test everything from hand-forged knives to waxed canvas packs.

We buy every product we review with our own money. We do not accept free samples for review. Our testing team orders items at retail, uses them for weeks or months, and documents the results. We publish hands-on scores on a five-point scale, with scores explained against the full 1 to 5 scale.

Our team includes three full-time editors: Elena Papadakis (Editor-in-Chief), Marcus Chen (Reviews Editor), and Sofia Ramirez (Research Editor). Together we cover rugged everyday carry, traditional craft goods, and outdoor equipment. We retest every featured product at least once a year.

Reading our coverage

Traditional craft goods, canvas packs and outdoor tools are considered through construction, weighted carry, material wear and care, rather than appearance alone.
