Review methodology

Every review starts with a purchase. Our testing team orders the product at full retail price, often from multiple retailers to compare packaging and shipping.
We then put the product through a structured test plan. For knives, that means cutting tests, edge retention checks, and handle ergonomics. For bags, we load them with weighted gear, carry them on daily commutes, and check zippers, stitching, and water resistance. For tools, we measure fit, finish, and durability under repeated use.
We log everything in a shared spreadsheet. We take photos and notes at each stage. After at least two weeks of real-world use, we compare the product to similar items in our test archive. Scores are assigned on a five-point scale: 5 excellent, 4 good, 3 adequate, 2 poor, 1 very poor. Hands-on scores use the full 1 to 5 scale.
Changes to the product or the underlying evidence prompt reassessment. Retests follow the same protocol.
Records and comparison limits
Comparisons record the load and carrying conditions, knife tasks and repeated tool use. Materials and construction claims remain separate from observed wear; the test duration and sample count accompany the judgment.
